Although Republicans keep on saying that they don’t want a government shutdown, and although Republicans will try to blame it on Democrats when they do actually shut down the federal government (rest assured, they will shut it down in April), but yet….here they are, recently caught on tape spewing in favor of a federal government shutdown.
Transcript of remarks made by Republican lawmakers in favor of a federal government shutdown below the video.
Watch:
Tim Pawlenty (R-MN): “It wasn't always pretty, but we had a shutdown...one of the things I wondered is whether I should have let the shutdown run longer. ….Well, ya know, in Minnesota, we survived it okay (referring to when he shut down MN’s government as governor)” .
Rep. Joe Walsh (R-IL): “ ….or should I shut down government? And I gotta tell ya, most people in my district say shut it down.”
Sen. Mike Lee (R-UT): “It's not a great thing. And yet at the same time, it's not something we can rule out. It may be absolutely necessary.”
Rep. Ron Paul (R-TX): “I don't think it would hurt one bit.”
Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-TX): “Even if it means...say...showing how serious we are. Okay, governments gonna haveta shut down.”
Rep. Mike Kelly (R-PA): “No I don't think it (a government shutdown) would be (as bad as people make it out to be).”
Rep. Tom Price (R-GA): (when asked if he thinks shutdown should be off the table) “uh, everything oughta be on the table.”
Yeah. It won’t be so bad. Never mind that people will stop getting their social security checks, and so on, and so forth. Not so bad at all, really. huh.
