Sen. Jim DeMint (R-TeaBagger Idiot Guru) calls for a filibuster of the looming debt ceiling vote:
We're going to filibuster it [the debt ceiling]. You have to do everything you can to keep [Democrats] from raising the debt ceiling because that will force them to do things like balance the budget.
Um, no it won’t. It will, however, probably cause a global recession.
These people are nuts. The Hill:
The White House has warned Republicans not to block a vote on the debt limit. Failing to raise the ceiling would be "Armageddon-like" for the economy, Obama spokesman Jay Carney said recently. Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner has said the U.S. is expected to reach its debt limit by May 16.
…..Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner told lawmakers last week that the government will reach its debt ceiling on May 16. He said the government could move funds that would avoid a default for some time, but that those tactics would be exhausted by July 8.
