Anyone whose been watching the Republican primary farce at all knows how far right the candidates have swung. Former Reagan strategist,, Ed Rollins on the debacle that is the Republican primary in 2012:
“Six months before this thing got going, every Republican I know was saying, ‘We’re gonna win, we’re gonna beat Obama. Now even those who’ve endorsed Romney say,‘My God, what a fucking mess.’ ”
You would think that the Republican pandering to the fringe would turn off the average Republican voter. But that apparently isn’t happening, and it just might not be that simple.
Gallup polling in trial heats indicates a very close matchup between both Romney and Santorum v. President Obama:
U.S. registered voters are closely divided in their 2012 presidential election preferences between Barack Obama and Mitt Romney, and between Obama and Rick Santorum. Romney is slightly ahead of Obama, 50% to 46%, while Obama edges Santorum, 49% to 48%, but neither of these differences is statistically significant.
Why am I going here? I think it’s important to understand that we still have alot of work to do to ensure President Obama’s re-election, and these trial heats are just a reminder to everyone that it’s far from a sure thing.
It ain’t over till it’s over.
