Nate Silver’s current forecast for the Senate after midterms. Not too bad.

The NRCC crossing lines again in Virginia's 5th congressional district; published home addresses of opponent's [Rep. Tom Perriello (D)] staffers. Steve Benen:
Keep in mind, Sere could have just tweeted the names of the staffers, and noted that they live in other districts. He didn't literally have to publish their full home addresses, but he did so anyway.
But "given the history here" is especially relevant. In March, right-wing activists opposed to health care reform published online the home address of Perriello's brother. Soon after, the congressman's brother found that a gas line had been cut at his house.
The NRCC is notorious for its ugly, win-at-all-cost campaign tactics, but under the circumstances and recent right-wing tactics in the area, circulating home addresses is a step way too far.
Earlier this week, President Obama announced a plan to spend $50 billion on infrastructure, both as a means to spur job growth and the economy, as well as shore up our sagging infrastructure. However, the buzz today is that because of the difficulty in getting congressional approval, this is not likely to happen anytime soon. Roll Call:
House Democratic leaders are already writing off President Barack Obama's $50 billion infrastructure proposal, saying that GOP opposition will likely doom any major bills on tap before the November elections.
Thanks, Republicans. We really appreciate your persistent habit of saying "NO" to anything that might benefit the middle class. Bastards.
Whacko Tea Party candidates are promising to repeal the 17th amendment, which allows the PEOPLE to directly elect U.S. senators. This would mean that state legislatures would elect senators rather than the people/voters. Greg Sargent on how incumbent Dems are using this extreme position to attempt to defeat Republicans/Tea Party candidates.
In an article published by the NYT yesterday, Feisal Abdul Rauf, the imam who is responsible for the plans to build the community center, Park51 aka the "ground zero mosque", wrote that he will reveal all of his financial backers, and plans to go forward. Rauf:
We have all been awed by how inflamed and emotional the issue of the proposed community center has become. The level of attention reflects the degree to which people care about the very American values under debate: recognition of the rights of others, tolerance and freedom of worship.
I do not underestimate the challenges that will be involved in bringing our work to completion. (Construction has not even begun yet.) I know there will be interest in our financing, and so we will clearly identify all of our financial backers.
The fact that Rauf has not been cowed in to backing down should certainly make the right wing very happy angry.
Gerrymandering: yet another reason Democrats must go to the polls and vote in November!
Not political news, but fascinating, nevertheless! The 10 most amazing trees in the world, including the oldest tree, a bristlecone pine appropriately named "Methuselah", which is almost 5,000 years old.
