Sen. Jay Rockefeller (D-WV) to the CEOs of the nation’s five largest oil companies (Exxon Mobil, ConocoPhillips, BP America, Chevron and Shell) during a Senate hearing on Thursday regarding high gas prices (part of a Democratic effort to end subsidies for oil companies),emphasis mine:
“I think you're out of touch, deeply profoundly out of touch and deeply and profoundly committed to sharing nothing. You never lose. You've never lost. You always prevail.”
These five oil companies raked in $35 billion in profits in the first quarter of 2011, and yet, they want to keep their tax subsidies, and continue to gouge us at the pump.
Greedy bastards.
